Reasons to get excited about autumn!

Ahh autumn. Some people count down the days until it arrives, others wish summer would never end. Here at Staffroom, we’re loving this time of year, as we’ve been able to send our lovely candidates back into our schools. But fear not! If you find yourself wishing autumn would stay away, we’re here to remind you just how lovely this season can be, and how the little things can make it seem a whole lot more fun!

1) Autumn food and drink

Hearty soups, apple crumbles, and pumpkin spice lattes (don’t roll your eyes until you’ve tried one - they’re lush!) are just some of the must-have food and drink to help you through those dark mornings (ugh) and dark evenings (well - afternoons). Having the nights draw in earlier may not be the most fun, but the cosy and warming food that we start eating in autumn certainly helps to make up for it!

2) Cosy film nights

Thanks to those dark evenings and a general lack of sunshine, a lot of us will feel far less guilty for spending our evenings tucked away at home. So what better way to keep ourselves entertained than a good old fashioned movie night? Not really your thing? Then perhaps try snuggling up with a good book!

3) Halloween

Speaking of films…it’s the perfect time of year to add a horror film to your watch list! Halloween is one of our favourite parts of autumn, from fancy dress to pumpkin carving - it’s just so much fun! Keep an eye on our social media pages to see how the team at Staffroom will be celebrating!

4) Bonfire Night

Another autumn favourite of ours! We love the feeling of wrapping up warm and watching a fireworks display! Alternatively, sparklers in your back garden can be lots of fun- just make sure to be careful and dispose of them safely afterwards!

5) Closer to Christmas!

Now, some of you may be screaming ‘IT’S WAY TOO EARLY’, whilst others may be squealing with delight that Christmas is coming - because after all, who doesn’t love starting their Christmas shopping in March? However you feel about getting excited about Christmas in autumn, the fact of the matter is that Christmas is on its way! In fact, from publishing this blog today, it’s only 94 days til Christmas! Mince pie anyone?

6) Autumn fashion

As lovely as summer clothes are, it’s often difficult to know what to actually wear, but with autumn, we know where we stand - it’s going to be cold, and probably rainy! Big snuggly jumpers, hats, gloves and scarves and maybe even some autumn-inspired nails are certainly a fun part of the season.

7) Telly gets so much better!

It’s not just us… is it? Summer TV shows just aren’t as good as the telly that we get in autumn…with the possible exception of Love Island! Bring on Bake Off and Strictly!

So there you have it, the end of summer doesn’t have to be so sad. There’s a lot to look forward to - we’ve just got to make the most of it! From all of us at Staffroom, we hope that you have a very happy pumpkin-spiced, movie-packed, spooky, sparkly, festive, fashionable, telly-filled autumn!
