How to Create a Healthy Work Life Balance
Here at Staffroom, we know that nothing comes easy and getting back into your school routine can be stressful. Teaching is a rewarding job, but this doesn’t take away from the hard work and passion that we know our clients put into their work.
We want to give you some strategies to help manage a healthy work-life balance.
1. Be kind to yourself!
As simple as it seems being kind to yourself has a lasting effect on your personal growth. If you treat yourself the way you treat others, you will soon see how much easier your day can be. You wouldn’t expect half as much from other people as you would expect from yourself so try to avoid putting too much pressure on yourself.
Being hard on ourselves is a natural response to pressure therefore its key for you to recognise this and act accordingly. Relax, Reset and Recharge your mind before attacking your thoughts.
2. Slow down and process your feelings.
If you ignore your feelings and how they have affected you, it will likely cause the feelings to resurface in the future. Addressing your feelings will help you process them and will enable calmer more rational mindset. By taking your time to process how you’re feeling, you will in turn reflect a calm attitude to your students and help them to process their feelings about schoolwork.
3. Prioritise your workload, and don’t overdo it.
We can all be guilty of a little overworking and overloading, but this will only end up harming yourself in the long term. By creating a list of your priorities, you will be able to see what the most important task is and start from there rather than trying to do everything at once. Don’t spread yourself too thin.
4. Eat well and hydrate often.
Nourishing your body with good nutrients will provide you with more energy to tackle the harder days. Make sure your break time snacks and meals will keep you going until the end of the day. We spoke to some of our staff and the best snacks were:
Oh, and don’t forget to stay hydrated!
5. Ask for help.
Seeking advice from your employers and colleagues is a simple but effective way of rationalising your mindset. Sometimes gaining another perspective can help drown out any unnecessary doubts or worries.
6. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep.
Create a night-time routine and have a regular sleeping cycle. This creates a routine that can enable your mind to relax and unwind in time for a good night’s sleep.
