Welfare Officer
Staffroom Education are recruiting for a Welfare Officer for a vacancy within a Secondary School in Newport. This post will start immediately and will run for 6 months, on a full-time basis.
The post holder will provide support, guidance, mentoring and training to individual and groups of vulnerable learners, responsibilities include;
To support students and their families who have been identified as vulnerable by the Assistant Head Teacher and Head of Year
To support students and their families who are FSM and /or vulnerable
To identify barriers to learning and work with families to find solutions such as;
- Emotional support for pupils
- Provision and support for behavioural needs
- Support for bereavement and family changes
- Support for transition within school and when pupils move to a new school
- Signposting to other agencies that might be able to support
- Encouraging punctuality
- Supporting pupil attendance
- Home contact visits to support family needs
Working with Heads of Year to identify families in need who could potentially qualify as FSM
Ensuring all FSM students have the same access to remote learning as their nFSM peers
Regularly communicate with parents of vulnerable children about their child’s progress and engagement with learning (in school and remote)
Work as a learning coach with specific groups of vulnerable students whilst we are in school and accessing distance learning.
