How to get work experience during your degree

So students, you’re having a pretty rubbish university experience this year due to the pandemic and most lectures and seminars taking place from your sofa or probably your bed! Dress code is pyjamas or sweats and no effort whatsoever is needed to look presentable because, well, no one can see you!

It’s pretty hard to feel motivated to do anything put pour a coffee and turn your laptop on to watch your lecturer teach a lesson, when all you can really concentrate on is the décor in the background and whether they are wearing their pyjamas on their bottom half too! But when you start getting emails about the importance of gaining work experience, you feel totally confused about where to start.

Worry not! As we’re sure you’re aware education is at the forefront of priority to remain open throughout the pandemic, which means before, during and after the pandemic we will continue to provide supply staff to educational settings. This means that our work opportunities for students continue to exist and develop, to ensure schools are not understaffed and children can continue to learn in a safe environment.

Working within schools can equip you with a variety of transferable skills whether you’re planning on working within education in the future or not. Our current students love the flexibility of the work, allowing them to manage their own availability and prioritise university work. You can choose from opportunities within Nurseries, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools which means you have the option to specify where you you do and don’t want to work. You get paid for the work you do, therefore not only are you gaining valuable experience but you are also getting paid for it!

All we need is that you have recent experience of working with children within the past year, this could be volunteering at a school, church group, community group, sports coaching or similar. Once you have registered with us, we will contact you each week to ask which days you’re free the following week which is great for those with ever changing timetables and work loads. You can also choose from Teaching Assistant roles (assisting the class teacher) or Cover Supervisor roles (covering an absent teacher) depending on your experience and confidence!

Due to the current climate, we are completing registrations online therefore you don’t even need to make your way to our offices!

So if you’re interested in gaining some valuable experience that you can take with on to your post-graduate career, fill out the form below and we’ll take care of the rest!
