Why Supply?
We all remember our supply teachers from our school days, but did you realise just how much schools need staff to cover absent teachers, or just be an extra helping hand to the classroom teacher?
Every day, our nurseries and schools call us and request to book staff for the day, the afternoon or even just a few hours. For those that are free 5 days a week to work, supply may not be for you. But often life gets in the way and it’s very hard for some of us to get that perfect work/life balance suited specifically to our personal circumstances. Supply work is a great option if you have an ever-changing timetable and personal circumstances that don’t allow you to commit to full time positions. This could be due to your part-time job, university timetable, caring for a member of your family, having children or anything else.
No Teaching Qualifications? No Problem!
Staffroom Education offer supply Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor work in Nurseries, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools in Cardiff, Newport and The Vale. When schools need supply staff, they don’t always expect fully qualified staff. Many schools are very open to working with students that are currently studying towards a degree with an interest in the education sector. Not only this but they welcome unqualified staff with recent experience of working with children in a classroom environment and so long as they have been through our fully compliant process and hold an enhanced DBS check. Therefore, supply work is a great way to gain an insight into whether completing a child-care/education-based qualification is what you want to do. We offer our staff the opportunity to complete their Teaching Assistant Qualification whilst working with us.
No obligations
Supply work and flexibility go hand in hand, which is what makes supply work so convenient for anyone with other commitments. The way it works is, we contact you every week to find out which days are you are available to work. If you have limited availability that week, that’s fine – we update that on the system and make sure we don’t call you to work on those days. We understand that timetables are ever changing, university work may increase or your little one may have an appointment. Often schools contact us before the school day starts to ask to book in a member of staff for that day. If we call you on a day you said you were free and your circumstances change, don’t worry, there is no obligation to work.
Work to suit you
We try and find the best work to suit you, when you register with us, we make sure we know what your preferences are with regards to key stages. There is no obligation to work in Nurseries, Primary Schools and Secondary schools if you don’t want to, we just note it on the system and only offer you the type work you want. Depending on where you’re based and whether you drive, we try and find work as close to you as possible. In addition to this, if you go to a school and don’t enjoy it, we discuss your feedback with you and note on the system that you are unable to return to that particular school.
Variety/ Experience
The great thing about supply work is that it gives you the opportunity to work in a variety of different schools, with a variety of different people. No two days are the same, so you’ll always be experiencing something new. If you’re a student and have an interest in working in education in the future but you’re not quite sure, supply work allows you to gain some useful work experience and help make your decision on whether or not you’d like to work in education in the future.
